How PEMF affects sleep

There are numerous devices on the market that are supposed to help you sleep. From white noise to machines to light sleep machines. And while they might be helpful (or not), they have no actual cellular effects as opposed to PEMF technology.

By brainwave entrainment, PEMF affects your cellular level and therefore successfully treats sleep problems and even insomnia. You see, your brain has a specific ability to adapt to external frequencies. It is responding to external stimulus by synchronizing the central nervous system’s electrical activity to the rhythm stimulus. If the rhythmic stimulus is a pulsed magnetic field, your brain can synchronize to the pulsed magnetic field. This synchronization is called “brainwave entrainment”.

The goal of PEMF therapies and brainwave entrainment for sleep disorders is to alter disruptive sleep wave patterns as PEMFs can affect the electrical activity of the brain to either slow it down or speed it up. To varying degrees, this will then change the frequencies of the brain to shift to patterns that enhance sleep.

Brainwaves during the night

The brain functions mostly in delta and theta throughout the night. Delta frequencies occupy about 10% of total sleep time in adults and occur between one to 1 1/2 hour after falling asleep, when we are in dreamless sleep. The rest of the sleep time is in theta and for most people with sleep issues the problem is in not being able to get into theta. They occur when we are in light and REM sleep.

delta wave is a high amplitude brain wave with a frequency of oscillation between 0.5 and 4 Hz

Theta activity has a frequency of 3.5 to 7.5 Hz and is classed as “slow” activity.

While audiovisual devices are often used to induce various brain wave states, PEMF penetrates the brain safely and helps it reach the desired frequency.

When you have difficulty falling or staying asleep, usually that means the normal frequency patterns of the brain are altered. By mimicking the normal frequency patterns of the brain in the process of falling asleep, NeoRhythm gently encourages your brain to fall asleep.

NeoRhythm’s sleep program can be used before sleep to help people fall asleep or close/under the pillow, for a good part of the night or all night, to help maintain sleep. The dominant emitted frequency is 4 Hz of theta brainwaves (magnetic flux density 2.5 mT) and the accompanying emitted frequency is 2.67 Hz of delta brainwaves (magnetic flux density 0.25 mT).
